Ten Months

Ten Months

Happy (belated) ten months to Miss Chloe. We went for a weight check and Miss Chloe gained more than a pound and a half over the last month or so. Whew! While she’s certainly not a big girl, you can definitely feel the extra ounces when you pick her up. Stay tuned for Christmas pictures! Happy holidays to everyone and all our love and best wishes.

Dominant Gene?

Dominant Gene?

If I recall seventh grade biology, I distinctly remember those examples where you had to cross a light hair, light eyed gene bubble with a dark hair, dark eyed gene bubble and you had to decide what the baby bubble would look like and it had to do with dominant and recessive genes. Remember that? So what the HECK is going with the genes of my daughter? I’m really beginning to doubt whether or not we took the right baby home, I mean for sure, she looks like her father but I dunno, am I sure I carried her for nine months? What color do YOU think her hair is right now? =0)

Tree Decorating

Tree Decorating

Now that Daddy is back from France, we can dig out the box of Christmas decorations that is of course on the bottom of our storage unit. Chloe wasted absolutely no time and was totally fascinated with the garland, particularly the beaded garland strand we have. We tried to get her to help us put the star on top of the tree but I think our expectations are a little high. =0) Stay tuned for more Christmas pictures to come!

Chloe’s First Dim Sum

Chloe’s First Dim Sum

So what happens when Grandpa is left in charge of Miss Chloe? They go dim-summing without Mommy. Not fair! Mommy wants dim sum TOO! Miss Chloe seemed to enjoy herself and the samples that Grandpa gave her. I believe egg custards were her favorite. What child doesn’t love egg custards?!?!? Thanks to Auntie Queenie for the great pics! I love the dead pan look that Chloe is giving her on the right as if to say “what? that was totally yum. what else is there to eat?”

Bye Bye November

Bye Bye November

Really the time flies so quickly, where did November go?  Here are a few recaps from the month.

With Laurent in France and my mother in Hong Kong, we’ve been spending half the week sleeping at Grandpa’s to reduce the schlepping of Miss Chloe and her baggage (yes, seriously her stuff packs the whole car every time we go somewhere). Auntie Queenie took this great video of Chloe’s first encounter with a bouncy ball.  I think she likes it!

And Auntie Queenie also took this one of Chloe working that arm and leg strength – only a matter of time before she starts pulling up and standing up on her own!

November is definitely still fall season as evident by the massive amounts of leaves that continue to blow down Henry Street. The potted plants on the front stoop have never been so colorful! But the temperature has definitely dropped and so we had to break out a winter coat for Miss Chloe. She seems relatively amused despite the color. =0)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!

It’s our first official cold for Miss Chloe. Not sure how she got it but she’s got one. It’s relatively mild. A little bit of a runny nose and some redness around her eyes as you can see from the pictures. It hasn’t interrupted her eating or sleeping patterns which I am thankful for and the good news is she’s already passed her germs to me. I got the runny nose yesterday and today I’ve got the sore throat. But better me than her and Miss Chloe seems totally fine today.

Even sick though, this little one loves to take pictures. Check out the one on the right where she thinks she’s all cute. HA!

And speaking of lunging, she gave Grandpa and I quite the scare. I don’t mind her lunging on a soft foam mat, but on the granite kitchen island top? She goes from sitting to leaning forward to WHOOPS! on her tummy! She did it twice yesterday so perhaps there is hope for crawling in the near future.

My Precious

My Precious

So our latest game with Miss Chloe is to put her on the floor mat and see how far she’ll lunge forward to get objects that she is interested in. She seems particularly keen on my grandmother’s silver ring and so I shot this video while we were staying at Grandpa’s house. I can just hear Gollum’s voice in my head whispering “My precious…” and Miss Chloe could sort of pass for Gollum with her bald wrinkly head, don’t you think?  =0)

On another note, I totally think this little one is going to be a lefty – she always goes with her left hand!

Nine Months

Nine Months

9NineMonth

Lucky for baby Chloe, no shots needed on her nine month visit. Unluckily for mommy, we had to weigh baby Chloe twice to make sure the weight reading we got was correct. For whatever reason, it seems that baby Chloe’s length and weight are EXACTLY the same as when she last visited the pediatrician during her six month visit. (pause) Yes, she’s no bigger and no smaller than what she was three months ago. Now the rationale part of me says “she’s fine, she’s petite, she’s doing her own thing” and then the irrational part of me says “what the heck?!?! she should have at least gained a few ounces if not a pound since three months ago, what’s going on?!??!”

The conversation I proceeded to have with the pediatrician was, looking back, somewhat funny, although in the moment, I was so anxious and panicked that I didn’t find it funny at all. I’ll let you be the judge:

Doc: So tell me what she eats other than milk.

Me: For breakfast, she has oatmeal and an egg yolk.  For lunch, she has some combination of veggies, like green beans or squash or carrots or sweet potato.  Recently we integrated some protein into that – chicken or fish – but it’s still mostly veggies.

Doc: Why only veggies?

Me: No reason, she was just eating a lot veggies from the beginning when we started introducing solid foods and just haven’t really changed it much.

Doc: So that’s like eating a salad for lunch. You eat a salad for lunch when you’re on a diet, right? Is the baby on a diet?

Me: No…

Doc: So mix it up! Make it a complex meal – one carb, one protein and one veggie at each meal. And if she’s still hungry after, give her some fruit or give fruit as a snack in between but three meals of carb/protein/veggie.

Me: (hangs head in shame, I’m a bad mommy) Okay…

So yeah… we are scheduled to go back to the doctor’s in four weeks to make sure Ms. Chloe puts on some weight between then and now. Enjoy it while you can baby Chloe! It’s not often when you’re told to eat up and put some weight on! =0)
